The existing layout of the apartment is typical of older buildings, with separated rooms for each function, creating a more compartmentalised feel. The kitchen is isolated from the main living and dining areas, limiting the sense of space and natural light flow. This layout doesn’t fully take advantage of the connection to the courtyard, which offers an opportunity for a more open, inviting design.
The concept opens up the apartment by removing a wall between the kitchen and living area, creating a bright, connected space facing the intimate courtyard. Designed within a 300,000 SEK budget, this reconfiguration provides a welcoming and functional layout for the young couple to entertain and enjoy the outdoor view.
The finished design brings the concept to life, creating a seamless flow between kitchen, dining, and living spaces, all overlooking the charming courtyard. Full-length wardrobes offer ample storage while maintaining a sleek aesthetic, and a sliding door provides flexible separation. Concrete-cast thresholds serve as a subtle nod to the apartment's original structure, blending memory with modern function for a distinctive and welcoming space.
